South Gosforth First School - School Development Plan
Each year, South Gosforth First School conducts a self-review of our performance over the previous 12 months using a wide range of information, including the views of pupils, staff, parents and carers, monitoring of practice and pupils' progress in books, evidence gathered through governor visits, assessment and progress information and in-school action research and 'lesson study', amongst other things.
This information is then used to guide our focus for on-going improvement to ensure that our school continues to offer the very best education possible for all of our pupils. Once these key priorities have been determined, they are then used to form the basis of our 'School Development Plan' for the next academic year. Towards the end of the 12 month period this plan is formally reviewed by senior leaders and governors using the evidence gathered, and then the cycle begins again.
If during the year unexpected areas for development arise due to a national directive, or an issue is identified in school, these areas are still addressed, however these may not form part of the formal school development plan. It is also important to mention that sometimes priorities can be addressed relatively quickly, but sometimes they take longer and may carry over on to the school development plan for the subsequent year. This is good practice and simply demonstrates that certain initiatives are being embedded in school practice thoroughly, before moving on to new areas of focus.
At South Gosforth First School, we use a team approach for school development planning, and members of our staff lead on specific areas within it - they research their area and present training to the rest of the staff which generates real self sustaining school improvement. Copies of our school development plan overview are placed all around school, so that everyone sees the plan as a real dynamic, working document which is 'lived' in school every day.
