Mrs Joanne Barnett

I joined the school as the Safeguarding Governor in 2024, after recently moving back to Newcastle to retire after 24 years in Kent. I have worked in education for all of my career. With extensive expertise in both social care and education, I am deeply committed to enhancing outcomes for all children.

I have several years of experience as an Ofsted Early Years Inspector. Recently, I concluded my tenure with Kent County Council as a Safeguarding Officer. My responsibilities included designing and delivering safeguarding training to schools and early years settings across the county.

As a Governor, I will endeavour to prioritise the school’s best interests, supporting its advancement not only for the benefit of the children but also for the staff who significantly contribute to school life. Early intervention in a supportive role as a Governor is an important function, while aiding parents in understanding how to positively promote children's learning, is fundamental to the success of SGFS.
